Sets a variable with for the specific kernel being installed and uses
that both to select the desired AKMODS layer and set the ostree.linux
image label as appropriate.

This never worked and Team Fortress 2 will eventually not have this issue. Left 4 Dead 2 and perhaps other Source 1 games will have this issue still, but that's life when the game's middle-ware executes heap memory.
