In 2023 we jumped from version 0.99.8 to 3.0.0 -- what's the deal with that? Where is 1.0?
Well, version 1.0 was originally released in 2007.

Development of version 2.0 started sometime in 2009, I believe, but was never fully realized; I had a job that cited a conflict of interest and prevented me from contributing further.

In about 2015, a while after changing employers, I resumed development. Unfortunately, the 2.0 code had been sitting dormant for more than half a decade and had started to rot, and most of the original contributors had moved on. At the time I wanted to build a new version just for myself, so I started hacking on it, eventually releasing a 0.2.1 version called. I should have called it 3.2.1 or something, but didn't, because I never thought anyone would actually use a terminal-based music player.

However, to my surprise, people *did* eventually start using it.
So, to avoid confusion with the original 1.0 release (and the never-finished 2.0 release), I decided the next major ("stable") release would be 3.0.0.
